In The Spotlight: Howard Beatty
If you visited Winona Woods during the Irondequoit Art Trail this year you might already have met Howard Beatty. Working at “it” for about 35 years, he and his wife Judy owned a gallery (The Queen’s Head and Asparagus) on Park Avenue in the early 1990’s while they both worked at Kodak. Retirement became an option in early 2001, and in 2004 they moved to Florida where Judy hated it; Howard didn’t. Consequently, they returned to Rochester and landed on Winona Blvd. Their lawyer described it as , “Moving to God’s Country”. During the past 35 or so years, hundreds of paintings have been created using various styles as a training device, resulting in a great group of Picasso’s, Cezanne’s, Gauguin’s, Van Gogh’s and others while simultaneously painting scenes from around the house. Recently, Winona Blvd. and the Irondequoit neighborhood have become favorite topics. In October of 2013 Howard Beatty had a one man show at the local I Square Gallery, and continues to show there when the opportunity presents itself. What a wonderful addition Howard is to our community.
For all those of you who might be looking for a piece of Howard’s work Mr. Beatty will be hosted his second annual Driveway sale on August 22 and August 23 at 460 Winona Blvd (corner of Winona and Parkside) from 9 AM to 5 PM each day with many paintings on display and for sale at reasonable prices. Howard would like you all to know what a pleasure it was to see you on those days and loves to see some of these paintings go to a good home because there’s nothing like original art on the wall.
