Street Tree Initiative Update
After much work with the town Conservation Board progress has been made in addressing street tree replants in Winona Woods.
This Spring the town will be following the lead set by Winona Woods and working to complete a town wide street tree inventory as we here did this summer. Winona Woods have been in regular contact with the Conservation Board offering feedback and suggestions in order to help roll out this initiative.
Over the next couple of months students from SUNY Brockport will be taking our inventory a step further and using GIS devices in order to establish exact locations for each of our trees and map them. Winona Woods and the town Conservation Board will then use this data in order to inform our choices for replants this spring.
Currently, Winona Woods will fund five tree replacements as a part of the Invigorate Irondequoit event this spring. Winona Woods residents will be encouraged to sign up to join a work team focused on planting these trees right in our very own neighborhood.
In the future, we hope to be able to continue this tradition using a mix of neighborhood funds, grants and town support, ensuring the continuation of a healthy tree canopy.
